Recent Activities
- Most of the Behavioral Law Center recent activity has focused upon counter-terrorism and is channeled through the Inter-University Center for Legal Studies (IUCLS) of which Edgar Brenner, J.D. is co-director. IUCLS is an unincorporated part of the International Law Institute (ILI), 1055 Thomas Jefferson Street, NW, Washington, DC, 2007.
- The Behavioral Law Center participates in an active program of Seminars on issues of public importance. On February 15, a program at ILI entitled “International Cooperation in Combating Terrorism: Mediterranean Lessons.” was Co-Chaired by Edgar Brenner, J.D. Co-sponsors included the International Center for Terrorism Studies (Potomac Institute for Policy Studies), the Homeland Security Policy Institute of the George Washington University, and the Hudson Institute. Speakers included the Political Counselor of the Embassy of Morocco, The Deputy Chief of Mission of the Embassy of Bulgaria, and a former Governor of the Basque Country, Spain. Approximately 100 people attended.
- On March 28, a panel discussion entitled “Syria and Iran: The Next Phase (Confrontation or Cooperation)?” was Co-Chaired by Edgar Brenner, J.D. The venue was the Hudson Institute. Co-sponsorship was similar to the previously mentioned program. Panelists included a former FBI Legal Attaché in the Middle East, a specialist in Middle Eastern Affairs from the Congressional Research Service, a Senior Fellow from the Washington Institute for Near East Policy, a retired State Department Ambassador with experience in counter-terrorism, and an expert on nuclear physics. Approximately 118 people attended.
- A volume entitled “Turkey: Terrorism, Civil Rights and the European Union.” with Edgar Brenner, J.D. as one of three co-editors is currently in press with Cavendish.
- An additional volume co-authored by Edgar Brenner, J.D. dealing with Canada’s legal responses to terrorism is in preparation.
- The Behavioral Law Center is also engaged in the development of behavior analytic methods for detecting individual terrorists while avoiding politically incorrect classification of persons.
